{"id":58625,"date":"2021-08-16T15:29:57","date_gmt":"2021-08-16T13:29:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/2021\/08\/16\/european-leather-fashionable-sustainable-unique\/"},"modified":"2025-04-22T11:06:02","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T09:06:02","slug":"european-leather-fashionable-sustainable-unique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/en\/2021\/08\/16\/european-leather-fashionable-sustainable-unique\/","title":{"rendered":"European leather: fashionable, sustainable&#8230; unique!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In December 2020, COTANCE and IndustriAll-Europe, the European labor trade union, officially presented the new <a href=\"https:\/\/mailchimp.us20.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=fcd4a266b1b41c4baa0eb7375&amp;id=7bebdc092b&amp;e=3ad940b4c6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Social and Environmental Report<\/a> of the European tanning industry to a wide audience of stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"745\" height=\"528\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Cotance_Social-and-Environmental-Report.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56767\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Cotance_Social-and-Environmental-Report.jpg 745w, https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Cotance_Social-and-Environmental-Report-300x213.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 745px) 100vw, 745px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report was developed and published in the framework of a dedicated EU Social Dialogue Project (SER2020), that started in 2019 The aim of the project was to illustrate the outstanding progress made by the sector in the areas of social footprint, environmental footprint and ethics since the previous exercise in 2012.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work started with an intensive survey amongst EU tanneries: 37 social indicators, such as contract type, age brackets, education, length of service, and 39 environmental parameters (chemicals, energy and water consumption, waste generation, removal of pollutants&#8230;) were monitored and analyzed over a 3 years reference period (2016-2018).<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"698\" height=\"252\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Cotance_length-of-service.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-56766\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Cotance_length-of-service.jpg 698w, https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Cotance_length-of-service-300x108.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exercise was challenging but very stimulating, evidencing the incredible variety of leather production segments across the 11 countries involved.<br\/>The European tanning industry offers continuous employment contracts, solid guarantees of transparent relationships, an inclusive working environment and the chance to collaborate with amazing creative industries, like fashion, design and automotive.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These conditions are the base for high staff retention and for an important increase in skills levels.
