The present report pulls together all sector-specific information on tannery workplace accidents in Europe for better understanding them and drawing lessons for improved workplace safety in tanneries.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class='avia-iframe-wrap'><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Green Deal Leather - Social Study on Injuries\/Incidents at the Workplace\" width=\"1500\" height=\"844\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c7LnEENyO3o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<p>COTANCE&#8217;s Secretary General, Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano<strong>,<\/strong> explained the context of the <em>Green Deal Leather<\/em> project, emphasizing:<em>  &#8220;Since COTANCE started the Social Sectoral Dialogue with its Trade Union counterparts some 25 years ago, <strong>workers&#8217; health and safety has always been at the top of our agenda<\/strong>. This figure includes accidents on the way to or from the workplace. Serious accidents are rare, most are wounds (49%), including superficial cuts concerning mainly the upper limbs (47%) with half involving hands (23%).  <strong>  From 2019 to 2021 accidents have decreased by 16% (both female and males).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"949\" height=\"679\" src=\"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/123e-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-57258\" style=\"width:528px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/123e-3.png 949w, https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/123e-3-300x215.png 300w, https:\/\/www.swedishtanners.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/123e-3-768x549.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 949px) 100vw, 949px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p>In the words of Judith Kirston-Darling, Deputy General Secretary ofindustriAll-Europe:<br\/> <br\/><em>&#8220;<strong>Quality social dialogue is essential to ensure a safe tanning and leather sector in Europe<\/strong>. We encourage all employers to produce relevant data on occupational health and safety issues and to work closely with workers and their representatives at site level to ensure that all workers are properly trained, and that adequate health and safety measures are fully respected by both sides.
